Leh Ladakh UNTAB Scheme 2021 – Free tablets for students, 12300 tablets distributed

The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh UT has launched the YounTab scheme for the students on 4th June 2021. In the new Youn Tab scheme, State Govt. Wants to provide free tablet computers to the students to facilitate their online studies. Under this free tablet scheme, LG RK Mathur had actually distributed 12,300 tablets among the students in Leh.

What is Ladakh Untab Scheme 2021

Leh Ladakh Untab Scheme is a free tablet scheme for the students of the newly formed Union Territory (the first part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir). According to the Ladakh administration statement, YounTab is an initiative of the Department of School Education with technical assistance by the Department of Information Technology. Around 12300 tablets with pre-loaded online and offline content were distributed to government school students under the Free Tablets scheme.

Features of Leh Ladakh Free Tablet Plan

The important features of the free tablet plan launched by the Ladakh administration are as follows:-

  • The new YounTab free tablet plan aims to improve the technology needed for education in the years to come.
  • Free tablets come with preloaded online and offline content.
  • The tablets distributed under the YounTab scheme include content from textbooks, video lectures and online classroom applications.
  • The Ladakh administration has distributed free UNTAB tablet computers to students of classes VI to XII studying in government schools.
  • The Lt Governor of Ladakh UT launched the YounTab scheme on 4th June 2021 by distributing tablets to 12300 students.

Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh on YounTab Scheme

Addressing the launch event of UNTAB scheme, LG Mathur emphasized on the importance of education technology in the years to come. The Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory expressed satisfaction over meeting the urgent need of the students of Ladakh. During the launch of the Free Tablet Computer Scheme, tablets were distributed among the students of remote areas.

The LG noted that “the plan is not only linked to the pandemic, but is an attempt at long-term technology communication in the education system.” The Leh Ladakh LG even informed that the existing telcos have agreed to install additional towers.

Additional towers for enhanced network coverage

Administration of UT Ladakh is also in touch with DoT for implementation of NOFN in Ladakh by laying OFC up to block level in place of VSATs. For this purpose, additional 115 towers with 1760 km of OFC cable have also been requested to ensure 100% connectivity in Ladakh.

The LG noted that as per the recently published report on Sustainable Development Goals by NITI Aayog, there is a need for substantial reforms in the education sector of UT Ladakh. Efforts should be made to improve the quality of education in schools, 100% enrollment and zero dropout.

Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur appreciated the education department for achieving 100% target in teacher training. He said that the help of NCERT would prove beneficial in bringing about further improvement in the training and curriculum development of the department.

Rewa Scheme – Coaching Assistance to Meritorious Students

UT Ladakh has announced financial assistance to the meritorious students of class 10th and 12th to get coaching for exams like NEET, JEE, NDA and UG CLAT. Students will be reimbursed coaching fees up to Rs. One lakh under the Rewa scheme. Similarly, for the students who have passed the preliminary examination of Civil Services, IES and IFS, LG Mathur announced financial assistance of up to Rs. 1.54 lakhs.

He also announced a grant of Rs.25 lakh from the LG’s fund to the Gram Panchayats to facilitate better provision in villages for conducting community classes for primary school students.
